THE JK EXPERIENCE
Commercial
Architecture
Singapore
A proposed addition and alteration to a disused cinema in the heart of Bedok, a residential enclave in Singapore.
This mall concept works around keeping the existing structure of the cinema while injecting fresh new activity-generating spaces on the upper levels to create a community-centric centre for the neighbourhood.
Here, the existing high double volume of the cinema is kept and as a result, a spacious first storey is turned into a dining experience within a garden setting.
This open concept for a mall encourages natural ventilation in the main circulation spaces, while lush landscape is situated at various location to provide a comfortable dining/lifestyle experience.
The circle seats from the previous cinema is changed into an outdoor landscape area on the 2nd storey as a community space for leisure.
The 3rd storey is a destination hub for education as programmes such as childcare-centres, tuition, enrichment schools are situated.
